The Executive Director is the chief executive leader of the Foundation and is responsible for the overall management and success of the organization. This includes operational oversight, financial stewardship, program delivery, staff leadership, and volunteer coordination. A central focus of the role is cultivating donor relationships and driving fundraising efforts, in close collaboration with the Director of Strategic Development.
The Executive Director provides strategic direction, ensures organizational sustainability, and champions the Foundation’s mission in the community and beyond. This is a remote position with occasional travel as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Organizational Leadership
- Provide visionary leadership to advance the mission and long-term goals of the organization.
- Develop, implement, and refine strategic plans in alignment with Board-approved objectives.
- Oversee daily operations, ensuring effective management of programs, resources, and people.
Fundraising & Development
- Serve as chief fundraiser for the organization, cultivating relationships with current and prospective donors, foundations, and partners.
- Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Development to design and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies.
- Ensure the financial sustainability of the organization through grants, major gifts, individual giving, and partnerships.
Board Relations & Governance
- Act as primary liaison between the Board of Directors and staff.
- Engage and support the Board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities.
- Report regularly on organizational performance, financial status, and strategic initiatives.
Operational & Financial Oversight
- Oversee budgeting, financial management, and reporting in compliance with nonprofit standards.
- Ensure legal and regulatory compliance across all aspects of the organization’s work.
- Develop and maintain internal policies, procedures, and systems to promote efficiency and accountability.
Staff & Volunteer Management
- Recruit, lead, and mentor a mission-driven team of staff and volunteers.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive organizational culture.
- Set performance goals, conduct evaluations, and provide professional development opportunities.
Community Engagement & Advocacy
- Represent the Foundation in public forums, media appearances, and stakeholder meetings.
- Build partnerships with aligned organizations, institutions, and community leaders.
- Advocate for relational wellness and community-building at local, national, and global levels.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in nonprofit leadership (5-10 years’ experience), with significant responsibility for operations and fundraising.
- Demonstrated success in donor cultivation, grant writing, and strategic fundraising.
- Strong strategic planning, financial management, and organizational development skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to inspire and mobilize stakeholders.
- Familiarity with relationship-based programming, social connection initiatives, or public health is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in nonprofit management, business, or related field preferred.
